It animates all living beings, nature and the cosmos. It is\nan energy that is present in all forms of matter and is concentrated\nin living organisms.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In\nTCM a distinction is made between prenatal and postnatal Qi. The\nprenatal or innate qi is inherited from parents and ancestors. This\nis stored in the kidneys and is our essence.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The\npostnatal qi is obtained from food and the air we breathe, which is\nwhy nutrition and exercise are so important. The Qi flows in the\nso-called meridians, but also circulates freely in the body &#8211; such as\nthe Wei Qi, our defense energy. The Qi expands and is active during\nthe day (Yang), at night it retreats inside to regenerate (Yin).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Qi\ncan be abundant or deficient, stagnated or blocked. Abundance\nmanifests itself in Yang or heat symptoms such as inflammation,\nrather sharp pain, high fever and acute events, deficiency, on the\nother hand, are mostly Yin or cold symptoms such as chills, numbness,\nedema, chronic and rather dull pain.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Qi\nis the breath of life, like a stream, an invisible force that keeps\nall physical, emotional and spiritual processes going and lets us be\nalive. It pulsates, transforms, nourishes and is the engine of an\nongoing cyclical change, filled with the energies of heaven (Yang)\nand earth (Yin).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>It\ndirects the blood, the nervous and lymphatic systems (Ying-Qi), it\nstrengthens the immune system (Wei-Qi). It turns food into body\nsubstances, keeps organs in place, prevents excessive perspiration,\nkeeps the body warm, and is the source of movement and growth.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Qi\nis everywhere in the body, its flow runs along certain channels, the\nso-called meridians. There are 12 main meridians corresponding to the\nmain organs and 8 extraordinary meridians.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Qi\nis the invigorating energy of all processes, our life energy.
